I have not lost all brain cells yet...

As a result of having triplets and a preschooler and therefore little time to blog, I will give you a bullet-point update while pumping.

- The Refluxers seem to be doing better with their Prevacid! A Christmas miracle!

- I am in serious need of a diet overhaul. Apparently, sleep deprivation makes me want CARBS and nothing else, and the weight loss has stopped, leaving me with 8-ish pounds that I would like to be free of. The extra skin? We'll have to see if that ever goes away.

- As a result of above epiphany, I am going try to watch what I shove in my mouth as I walk by the kitchen while holding a baby, and get out for more walks up hill. Although I love to run, the size, sensitivity and weight of the ginormous breasts will prohibit it for a while. I am trying to squeeze in (A pun! Am not totally brain dead!) lunges and squats while holding babies. A frequently tries to imitate my lunging and only then do I realize how silly I must look to her.

- A wonderful Christmas we had! My mom and I, frequently called Martha Stewart-types, learned a hard lesson: we cannot do everything for the holidays that we usually do. I forgot to help A put out cookies for Santa, we were all wrapping gifts at midnight on Christmas eve, and I did not get to watch "Love Actually" which is a huge tragedy. What we learned? We have to let go. My house is no longer spotless and well-decorated (unless you count piles of burp-rags and pacifiers on the tables as decor) and it does NOT matter. What matters is happy and content children- four of them, not whether or not we made the marinara for the lasagna from scratch.

- The nursing/pumping adventures continue! I am working hard to keep up with my little eaters... and am constantly amazed at how much milk my body can make, and how variable my pumping output is. Frustrated post about the pump and its quirks to follow. The babies are all latching on better and taking more at each "session" but still need a bit more after sometimes. The times where they nurse themselves milk-drunk and are content are more frequent, which is awesome. I am also nursing two in a row (tandem is a three ring circus still) and having some success with that. I cannot believe how hard this is, the nursing followed by pumping followed by bottling. It sucks (Another pun!) all the time I'd have with them and their sister, but is so necessary to get where we want to be. Listening to their contented nursing sounds while they snuggle next to my skin is the most wonderful sound.

- Lastly, we are a spectacle! And neighborhood celebrities. It is rather amusing to watch cars slow down and stare at this (not liking the way my behind is looking these days! Must resist cookies.):

  1. So cool...I never knew they made triplet snap & go's. You're incredible with the nursing...my body never got up to the amounts my twins were eating, so I had to stop at 3 months. You go girl!

  3. That picture is a wonderful sight! I can imagine people stopping to stare as you walk your little ones. And your butt.. I don't think anyone would call it fat after having 3 babies! I'm 34 weeks now and hoping to make it as long as I can. I want to know what kind of bottles work the best. Do you like the actual bottles or the drop-ins? We are trying to figure out which is easiest...
If you have time to answer me, I'd appreciate it. valeriebenedict@gmail.com

  4. We are celebrities wherever we go with twins, so I can't imagine how people react to triplets.

I love our Double Decker, except for the dumb brake mechanism. You must be awfully strong to control your Triple Decker going up and down those Seattle hills!

Good job typing while pumping. :)

  5. you look amazing! what are ya talkin'? How do you manage to do anything other than push that thing forward? What about corners?
If you live in Seattle and have those three babies to push everywhere your weight loss will be complete in no time!

    Merry Christmas

  6. I'd slow down to see that too...and you look fabulous. Seriously. Better than I have ever looked before I got pregnant--so try not to be too hard on yourself. Hang in there!

  7. Honey, you look GREAT!!! And I love the stroller. Cute! Lunges with babies is hard but it adds some great weight to your workout!

  8. You look AMAZING! I'm just about to have my first baby this evening/tomorrow and am hoping to look as good as you do after recently having three! Don't be so hard on yourself! And kudos to you for keeping with the breastfeeding. I can't even imagine how hard that must be, but find it completely inspiring.

  9. I am insanely jealous of how amazing you look! I had my son 8 weeks ago and still have the majority of my baby weight left to lose. No matter what I do, it isn't going anywhere for some reason. I'm down 10 and have about 35 left to go (not all of that was baby weight gain; I have about 28 of that remaining). Any tips would be great!! And I am breastfeeding too, so I'd imagine 8-10 lbs will hang around for a while. But I can deal with that!

  10. girlfriend, eat all the cookies you want. you're a nursing mum of three!

if i looked like you a few weeks after having triplets i would be well pleased. :)

you need to make gallons of milk for the next few months, and your body knows this and is sensibly hanging on to a bit of fat to make sure it will be able to. it's quite common not to lose all your babyweight for up to a year after having a baby - remember, nature is 'expecting' you to have to feed a baby for 18 months or more.

my friend is currently BFing 15 month old twin boys. she looks like a stick, but it took 9 months for this effect to kick in.

you're doing an awesome job - don't worry about the calories, you've got the rest of your life to get back to your normal levels of hotness.

  13. That's wonderful that everyone is doing so well! I was just thinking of you this evening. I was looking at my husband holding my 6 week old little man and thinking about how crazy your life must be with 3 of them PLUS a toddler. CRAZY!

  16. You don't look like you had 1 baby 2 months ago, let alone 3 (unless that hoodie can hide all sorts of stuff, which I doubt). Sounds like you're doing amazingly well - so glad that all has worked out so great for you!

  17. Great pic!! Don't be so hard on yourself for 8 pounds-I kept about 5 or so extra pounds on me w/ both kiddos until I weaned them and you have 3 babies that need to nurse! You are a rock star!!

  20. I just found your blog and am in tears! I read the last few posts. I'm in tears because this is still all so fresh in my mind even though our trio is 15months now! You are doing an incredible job! You really should be so proud of yourself! Glad to hear the reflux is better!! Happy New Year to all of you! BTW we live South of you by 2 hours!

  21. What behind, exactly, might you be referring to? Your body looks amazing - like you've never had kids... let alone trips.

So glad to hear the reflux is better. The girls are all on Zan.tac as of yesterday - might have to follow your lead to Preva.cid.

You are a rock star with the nursing-pumping-bottling gig. I've given up and am just pumping and bottling, with the occasional nursing session every now and then. I just couldn't do it all - too exhausting. I really admire you for sticking it out and trying so hard to reach your goal. You are one impressive mama.

Happy New Year to you, your dh, A. and the boys. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement this past year. How far we've come... The girls send hugs and snuggles to your boys and say they're jealous that you've been out walking with the TD! It's been freezing here and we've only ventured out for doctor's appointments.

  22. Yay for the reflux clearing up, that is wonderful news!

I'm amazed at your nursing/pumping routine...it's really incredible. I hope I can pull at least a little BF off come July, you are my inspiration!

Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family, Carrie!
