The Dog Days

You have probably heard at least one person you know who lives in the Pacific Northwest complain about the record-setting heat and humidity. It is currently about 90 where I live and we are nowhere near the daily high. We were made for weeks of rain and flooding, gray skies and North Face jackets and few of us have air conditioning. Seattleites are sweaty and cranky.

While I am worshiping my air conditioning, I still feel a bit hazy, out of focus. I am not sleeping much and my feet look like they are wearing foot-sized fat suits. Here are some of the happenings from the dog days of summer, straight from the couch.

- We all know I am counting the days until 24 weeks (17 more!) which is August 16th. Today I discovered that the BEST SHOW ON TV, or "Mad Men" is making its long awaited, third season premiere on... you guessed it! August 16th! This must be a good sign, right? RIGHT?

- From the mouth of my three-year old (emphasis is hers):

"I have twins named Scratch and Lucy and they were too small for bottles so they had to drink out of my breasts and they stayed at the hospital for two weeks but now they came home with me and you!""

"My tummy is big and I have to be on bed rest. Actually it is couch rest because I am really tired and it holds the babies in. That is what my doctor told me and I don't like it. It's no fun bed restin'."

"I am having so many contractions today!" (Said while clutching her tiny tummy.)

"Mommy, are your nipples getting bigger?" (She also asked the nanny that the other day.)

-And last, but not least, for your enjoyment, a picture of me (snapped by my mom's iPhone) scooting my way through Target. I get many strange looks, some annoying questions and knock over displays occasionally. Those little seat backs are not made for someone lugging around extra boob-age and babies in their body. I was so uncomfortable that I stuffed a package of (super cute, boyish) onesies behind my back for added support. This may have been the cause of some of the staring.

  6. I love the scooter pic!! My DH teased me the other day that he should get me one when we go out because I have been dragging ass lately. I told him about you scooting around Target with triplets. I'm so glad that is an option for you. It must be such a treat to get out.

Oh my goodness, your daughter is hilarious and adorable! From the mouths of babes...

And yes, we, like the Wicked Witch of the West are melllllllllltiiiiiiiing over here too. And yes, I have also joined the Church of A/C. People always would say to me "What a waste of money. Why do you need A/C, it's only hot two or three days a year." Hello suckers!!!! Watch me while I sleep UNDER THE COVERS!!! ;)

I loved your comment about why you love the number six! Makes me hopeful, which as you know, is a very difficult thing to achieve when you're going through IVF.

Stay cool and don't worry, you are doing a great job growing those six little tootsies.

    xoxo

  18. I know where your weather is! We have it!!! This has been the mildest summer since we've lived in PA and there is so much rain!

I got a kick out of your daughter. That is hysterical. Talk about how kids mimic our movements and words!

And the Target picture. That was too funny! Especially with your "back support". I love it!

Only a little over 2w to go!!! We can get there and beyond!!!

  19. That's so funny! Kids have the best wit sometimes. Love the photo - hey - gotta do, what you gotta do! If only those things came with horns to get people out of the way. Just run over a foot and they'll move I suppose.

Anyway - glad things continue to be going well. Thinking about ya!

  20. I love the Target pic! I broke my foot a few years ago and had to use those carts when I went to the store. People stared at me, too. I think it catches them off guard to see someone other than a geriatric using them.

    Too cute!!

  21. The scooter pic is priceless! I'm so glad your mom was there to capture that moment for posterity. :) 17 days to 24 weeks, woo hoo!!! You're so, SO close.

  22. I love the fact that you used the scooter-I have thought about it, but have been too much of a chicken until now! I will definitely use a scooter if it means I can actually go shopping again!

Your daughter's comments are great-I'll bet you had fun listening!

Stay in the air conditioning-it's one of my favorite inventions! I can't complain too much because Chicago has been unseasonably cool this summer.

After today I will have 18 days until 24 weeks-I might have to make a paper countdown like you did, if you don't mind me stealing your idea! :)

  23. Look at you in your cute little scooter!! I love it!

  25. The quotes made my day - hilarious and So cute!!

I am happy to see you are allowed out, as that must make bed rest much more bearable! Only 16 days.... :)

  26. I read your post to my husband and we were both laughing out loud at all the cute quotes from your precious little girl. I wonder where she gets her material. ;-)

LOVE the pic of you in the scooter! (Thank you, Carrie's mom, for letting us live that moment with you.) You are one brave, awesome woman to endure the stares.

Here in triplet girl land, we're 8 days behind you to reach the 24 wk milestone. 16 days for you, 24 for me. I'm counting with you and check your blog daily!

We definitely have your weather here in the North East. It's been unseasonably cool and mild and I'm the only person NOT complaining about that. Hope the weather cools off for you soon!
